Saxophone
player, Dave Sakover, can trace the origins of the Debonaires
back to December of 95’ in Riverside, California. Drawing
from influences such as The Skatalites, Toots and Maytals,
The Pioneers, Al Green, Curtis Mayfield, Jackie Mitto, Earnest
Ranglin, and Aswad. The Debonaires incorporate a wide variety
of styles such as 60’s Jamaican ska, reggae, dub, rocksteady,
and soul into a single setlist. The current line up consists
of Woody Diaz (drums), Jason Napayon, (bass), Mano Mirande
(rhythm guitar), Mike Presser (lead guitar), Jamal Siurano
(alto sax), Robert Laport (percussion), Ryan Tomazin (keys),
Dave Sakover (sax), Kip Wirtzfeld (sax/ lead vocals). The
Debonaires have performed with and gained recognition from
artists such as The Skatalites, Laurel Aitken, Justin Hinds,
Cedric Brooks, Hepcat, Save Ferris, The Skeletones, Let’s
Go Bowling, The Specials, The Toasters, The Slackers, and
Ocean 11. They have played at venues including The Whiskey
–A-Go-Go, (Hollywood), The Troubadour, (Hollywood),
The Roxy (Hollywood), Showcase Theatre (Corona), The UCR Barn
(Riverside) as well as toured in San Francisco, Sacramento,
San Luis Obispo, San Diego & Portland, Oregon. And a performance
at Ska Vs. Racism in Irvine, CA with over 3,500 in attendance,
and recently the Ska Summit 2003 in Las Vegas with over 10,000
in attendence. The Debonaires made frequent appearances on
the all-access cable programs such as “Ska Biz”,
on Time Warner Communications as well as “Third Wave
T.V.” in Seattle, WA. The band has performed live on
“the ska parade” with radio personality Tazy Phillips
and Albino Brown (KUCI 88.9 FM) in Irvine, CA and also on
the Inland Empire’s alt. rock station (KCXX- X103.9FM),
as well as Internet radio stations across the US and Europe.
The Debonaires released their first debut album entitled “Groovin’
After Sundown” on Rivercidal Syndicate /Raw Power Records
in the summer of 1998 which was the top seller in the Inland
Empire. They are currently on 3 national compilations &
1 International compilation, including Steady Beat Recordings
“The West Coast Chronicles Vol.1”, Rivercidal
Syndicate Records “Primo Sonic Rhythm Vol. 1”,
Boss Sounds Records “Forward March”, and Spirit
of 69 Records (Germany) “Searching for the Young Soul
Rebels Vol. 2”. The Debonaires have currently released
on their much-awaited follow up album self titled “The
Debonaires” out now, and touring extensively.
